The devastation in Nepal overwhelms me. I like to hide away from hard things, but unfortunately, hiding doesn’t make those things go away. They still exist.
As a country that’s trying to regain normalcy, Nepal has many things working against it. Meanwhile, many other countries are working to send aid. But you hear these stories of organizations sending impractical things to this earthquake-shifted country. So I thought I’d share with you two organizations that I trust and I know.
OM Nepal is a team that has been present in Nepal since 1968. This group of people is already invested in the lives of the people there. They know first hand what is needed, and they have relationships with people in the country already. Why not help a group of people who already have been aiding these people day-in and day-out, rather than just being the cavalry (not that a cavalry is bad!). Click here for giving options.

Besides not having shelter, lacking food, and jobs at a standstill, Nepal is the focus of sex traffickers especially after this natural disaster. It’s the perfect opportunity for traffickers to prey upon people that are desperate for living necessities. Out of Ashes is an organization that has already been working against sex trafficking in Nepal and India. Help expand their reach and ability to rescue girls here.
And there’s another way you can help Nepal. Are you an adventurer? A mountain trekker? A climber? Why not book your next trip out of the country to Nepal? Tourism seems like a strange, self-serving way to help a country; and yet, the way we spend our money does have impact. Time’s website had an interesting article on this. Check it out here.
