Like most of the world, I’m enthralled by the Olympics. The team spirit, national pride, the best of the best competing, the ceremony—it’s amazing. For the summer Olympics, I most adore Gymnastics.
I’m too tall to ever have been a gymnast hopeful, but I also have this fear of falling, especially when I’m standing (since I’m tall).
So I decided to track down the books that these athletes profess to love (and their instagrams, too).
The American Gymnasts for the 2016 Rio Olympics
2016 Rio Olympic Gymnasts Favorite Books
Simone Biles
Simone Biles has more talent and hard work in her little pinky than I do in my WHOLE body, but one thing I can relate to her on is The Hunger Games. Actually, I think most of us can.
P.S. If you click on the book image, it’ll take you right to Amazon so you can read more about the book! Just trying to be helpful. Wink.
Gabby Douglas
In an old interview from the 2012 Olympics, Gabby Douglas said her favorite book was Twilight (I’m hoping she has a new favorite book now). But Gabby has written two books herself: Grace, Gold & Glory and Raise the Bar! I find Gabby’s journey so inspiring, and I’ll be cheering her on during all of her events this year.
Madison Kocian
I tried. I tried to find a book that Madison listed as her favorite, but I couldn’t. However, she did mention enjoyed H20: Just Add Water so I dragged up this old television show (that I used to watch too). Who doesn’t love a fun mermaid story?
Laurie Hernandez
This is fun, researching these amazing athletes and learning about Laurie from Who Is…Laurie Hernandez. She shares that The Maze Runner is her favorite book, and I must admit that I have yet to read it or watch the film!
Aly Raisman
Another book I haven’t read, but Aly lists The Pact as her favorite so maybe I should check it out. I love the diversity of book favorites I see from these athletes!
With their three alternatives:
MyKayla Skinner
MyKayla didn’t actually say she liked The Longest Ride as a book, but she loved the movie. And after many internet searches, I could find no favorite book mentioned.
Ragan Smith
Hunger Games, again? No judgment here. It’s a thought provoking series, but now I want to hand Ragan a copy of Harry Potter and see if she’d like that too.
Ashton Locklear
So Ashton Locklear likes to read books that make her laugh, but she didn’t tell us any specifically! She likes to laugh, and she looks like a laugher.
Would this book make her laugh? Huffington Post says it’s hilarious in 46 Hilarious Books Guaranteed To Make You Laugh Out Loud.
Anyway, I’ve enjoyed going on this scavenger hunt to track down interviews and instagrams to discover what books these women gymnasts love.
So, would you read a book because someone you admire loved it?

I know, Linda! I would love to actually sit down with each of them and find out more about their book loves, but I think they’re busy right now!

That was super fun! I would never have thought to do a search like this, but it would be a great task to give my homeschooling girls! Thanks for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com!
