Early mornings are hinting at the coming of fall, even if the afternoons are still reaching piping hot temperatures. Coffee shops are celebrating the classic pumpkin spice latte, and every self-respecting basic chick has a selfie with her PSL in hand. It’s that time of year, where we’re looking forward to changing leaves, snuggly blankets, and chunky sweaters.
If you’re looking for a book to curl up with this fall. Here are 6 books that I really enjoyed in the last few months.
The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay
This cozy read just begs a cup of coffee and a snugly blanket. From page 1, I was captured by the characters and their stories. But I mean, as a book lover, this story has all the right components! JUST LOOK AT THE TITLE.
All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin
Family-centered, gut-wrenching, and thought-provoking, this story grabbed my attention with its back cover copy. I wanted to know, “What makes a good man?” And so I dove in, and while this was an uncomfortable read, it was still an enjoyable one.
Eating Viet Nam by Graham Holliday
I love nothing more than combing two of my favorite things: eating and reading, whether I’m reading while eating or reading about eating! But this book takes it to a whole other level by including my love of travel too! Graham Holliday is specifically great for this monologue on street food in Vietnam because of his dry British humor.
Leaving Church by Barbara Brown Taylor
Barbara Brown Taylor. Again and again, she reaches right to the heart of human experience and our relationship to each other and God. It’s raw and real, inviting the reader to fully lean into their own uncomfortable questions and wonderings. If this is what relationship with God, the church, and the Bible looks like, this is what I want.
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Hard-hitting and starkly-written, Between the World and Me was a slap in the face but in the best possible way–a wake-up call? It’s gripping, but it will push you into tight, enclosed spaces that you’ve never experienced before if you grew up pretty well off and white. It’s short and to the point. And worth the read.
Love in Three Quarter Time by Rachel McMillan
Crawl under thick blankets with this book and travel away to the iridescent city of Vienna with the character Evelyn, an American, with a crush on her Austrian boss. This story hits all the sweet spots, and makes you reach for book 2 as fast as you can.
Happy Fall and Happy Reading! If you have a book recommendation for me, send it my way!!
