Back when I attended college, one of my very favorite blogs posted an inspiration post weekly, and I absolutely adored it. When I started my own blog then website, I knew I wanted to do this little flight of fancy as well, and it’s always been so FUN for me to come up with these posts. To be honest, they’re my favorite. I love sharing beautiful and inspirational things.
And here we are, in August, and it’s time for a new blog post about INSPIRATION–things that catch my fancy and offer some level of delight.
What I’m Being Inspired By
Current Jam:
I often allow my YouTube and Spotify to just playyyyyy, and I super enjoy how sometimes it offers up the most surprising song options in conjunction with what I already enjoy. This last week, I was working on some personal writing (yes, okay, fine, my Christmas novella), and this song started playing. The sound of it stopped me mid-thought, and I had to find out the song title ASAP. I then played it on repeat.
Current Food:
Okay, I’m obsessed with food. If you didn’t know it before that sentence, then I don’t know who you are. Because, I’m absolutely into food. I particularly love my Hello, Hummus that I snag weekly from farmer’s markets, and when summer ends, I’m always a bit bereft that I’ll not be getting any more hummus. This was this week’s haul from the farmer’s market. I splurged and treated myself to a Pisarcik Flower Farm bouquet and The Pickled Chef kimchi to celebrate my submitted novella.
Current Read:
I told myself that I couldn’t read any fiction while I was working on my own Christmas novella, and while I stand by that decision, the last two months of not reading romance/fiction was absolutely sad to me. As soon as I submitted my own writing to Vinspire Publishing (my publisher), I messaged my friend and asked to borrow her eBook of Penny Reid’s Beard Science. Oh, this series focusing on the Winston Brothers is just exceptional fun, and I’ve LOVED every story.
Current Obsession:
Yo, I can’t help it. Here I am with food again. But I am utterly obsessed with Reginald’s Coffee and Oram’s Doughnuts. Like, hold the press, if you are in Pittsburgh or ever plan to visit Pittsburgh, these are kind of must-visit-must-eat places—-especially if you love doughnuts and coffee.
In other news, I’m also super obsessed with Balance Athletica and their new Kingdom Collection. They’re doing a preorder until August 4 so you have until tomorrow! I really adore this subtle animal print, just look at it. (And I don’t really consider myself to be an animal print kind of human.
Current Quote:
Sometimes, it feels silly to make a big deal out of something that happens in your life. I’m not sure how your inner voice narrates these moments, but most of the time, mine says things like, “Barbara, this is no big deal. No one would feel this way but you. Why are you making this a thing? Be cool. Quit making a big to-do about this.” Anyone else have arguments with themselves? Usually I have to tell myself that it’s ABSOLUTELY FINE for me to feel sad (cry) or feel really happy (celebrate). I easily dismiss my feelings the most. It’s so unkind.
Slowly, I’m trying to learn to be better about that.
