Krista Phillips entered my reading realm through one of my other favorite authors, Pepper Basham. I figured, if Pepper Basham said Krista Phillips was the stuff that she must be. And you know, Krista Phillips turned out to be chuckle-worthy. So I’m pumped that she agreed to join me on my blog to talk about her newest release, The Engagement Plot!

About The Engagement Plot
Six months ago, William stole Hanna’s heart and shattered it in front of millions of people on a reality TV dating show. And now the big-wig CEO is back on Hanna’s home turf in Minnesota and wants her to forgive him? Fat chance of that. But life is swirling around faster than snow in a blizzard, and despite her objections, teaming up with William seems like the only option to rescue her reputation.
William has never regretted anything more than the day he gave that ill-fated interview for the reality show, The Price of Love. But while he can’t change the past, he’s determined to fix the future. He just needs to convince Hanna to forgive him—and pretend to be engaged with him. Simple, right?
When the media erupts with even worse accusations, teaming up and pretending to be engaged seems to be the only way to salvage their reputations. Despite the media frenzy that swirls around them, an attraction neither of them can fight off begins to surface. Could this love run deeper than a scandal, or will old wounds tear them apart once and for all?

Pet Peeve: Bad drivers.
Current Read: Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst
Song on Repeat (include artist): “Be Still” by The Fray
In-Depth Questions:
1. What inspired The Engagement Plot?
The Bachelor was definitely part of the inspiration—but also finding the little town of Embarrass, Minnesota, that was just screaming to have a book set there!
2. Did the characters of The Engagement Plot teach you anything while you were creating the story?
Definitely. A lot about forgiveness, about power of perception, and also how easy it is to get caught up listening to my own voice and ignoring the one voice I should be listening to.
3. On a day of inclement weather, what would your protagonist be doing?
HA! Playing chess or checkers. There was a good deal of inclement weather too!
CB: That’s true. But the weather is like another character in the story!
4. Is there a line or quote from The Engagement Plot that you just love?
My favorite lines are longer and are the banter between Will and Hanna—like when he calls her “Hanna-Banana” and when she calls him “Willie-poo” just to irritate each other. It was SO MUCH FUN to write.
CB: Hilarious to read, too!
5. Did you travel to research The Engagement Plot?
Nope. I used to live in Northern Minnesota so used a combination of my experience and the Internet for that research, and I live in the Nashville area so I had those scenes covered!
5. I like to write book reviews where I compare the book to food. What would you compare The Engagement Plot to?
Oh goodness. Banana Pudding. Because it makes me smile, it looks smooth and easy and fun on the outside with lots of whipped cream and pudding, but when you get into you to see much more depth of bananas and crunchy wafers underneath.
CB: Hey! That makes sense–nice comparison there.
Bonus Question: What makes The Engagement Plot the perfect read for the upcoming Christmas season?
A great Christmas read because there is LOTS of snow in the book (even a blizzard!) to put you in a Christmasy mood, and lots of laughter. And we all need a little laughter during the Christmas season!
