It’s not hard to wear a bold lipstick. I think it’s one of these things that we overthink or over-complicate. The key is to straighten those shoulders and slap that bold color on your lips. Walk tall, chicadee.
How To Wear A Bold Lipstick
I’m on a lipstick kick. Seriously, I want to wear it everyday right now. Maybe it’s the shift to cooler weather or maybe I’m just feeling more vibrant. Or maybe it was my first successful trip to the prestigious Sephora…
So do you wish you could wear a bright red lipstick or a golden orange? What about that deep indigo shade you’ve seen on Instagram?
Wear It.
Just put it on your lips and walk out the door. It can really be that easy.
Start With The Cupid’s Bow
I like to apply my lipstick by carefully sculpting out my cupid’s bow. Mine’s quite prominent so I like to play it up. It’s kind of like making two cat ears over my mouth! (On bad days it reminds me of a mustache before I color in my lower lip…check out the center photo there)
How To Keep Lipstick Off Your Teeth
After I’ve applied my lipstick generously, I open my mouth and stick my pointer finger in. I close my lips around my finger and then pull it out. A ring of lipstick usually encircles my finger so I’ll repeat this action until there’s no more lipstick coming off on my hand. Who knew that ballet class would teach me that trick years ago!
To Bold Eye or Not Bold Eye (With Lipstick)
Cop out answer: it’s up to you.
My thoughts: I love a bold eyes with bold lips. It’s just so va-va-voom, and such a look tends to have me selfie-ing like crazy because um-duhhhh I look amazing. On the flip side, there are days where I just want to emphasize the lips so I’ll just do a little swish of mascara on my eyelashes and off I go.
Bold Eye and Bold Lip:
Bold Lip Only:
What To Wear
Bold lips compliment a monochromatic outfit (I love layered greys, solid black, or blue jean) but they also pair well with your most bombshell assemble (think pencil skirt and floaty blouse…just be careful to make sure that your lip shade compliments your other colors).
I’d Love To Do A Bold Lip But I Can’t
Okay. Why? The only reason I’ll accept is that you don’t have lips. If that’s the case, lipstick works just as well on plain skin as it does on lips. #sorrynotsorry
Bold Lipstick Peptalk
If you love the look of lipstick, I believe that you’ll look amazzzzzing in a bold lipstick. Apply it and stand straight. Choose to be confident even if you don’t feel confident. You’ll feel a little bit daring and a whole lotta Marilyn Monroe with your bold lip.
I love bold lipstick. I think it’s a perfect way to channel your inner beauty queen (with a red or pink) or your daring punk rocker (with a surprising color).
If you want to wear a bold lipstick, do it. Why should you listen to me? Because honestly, I’m your average Jane. Our lives are probably fairly similar, and I’m sitting here in workout clothes and two-toned lipstick…just try the lipstick.
Everyone has an opinion on how you should look. I’ve had people love my lipstick and tell me that I’m the reason they started wearing lipstick (crazy I know), but others have told me that they think I’m dampening my natural beauty with lipstick (this caused me to stop wearing lipstick for months before I realized…I love lipstick so I’ll wear it).
Shrug it all off. Yup, shrug those shoulders. And in this matter of makeup, just go for it.
The best part about a bold lipstick is you can wipe it all away at the end of the day (or in the middle).
