When I heard that Ronie Kendig’s second book of The Tox Files series was coming out, I itched to get my hands on it. Because honestly, I loved the Conspiracy of Silence, and I wanted to know, “Can Ronie Kendig do it again?” Bethany House Publishers sent out their email with the Fiction selection of titles to review, and I signed right up to receive Crown of Souls.
So yes, I received a free copy of Crown of Souls, and my opinions are totally my own. After all, If you read at all, you know that everyone has a different taste in books (just like food). I like to keep things honest.
Book Recommendation: Crown of Souls by Ronie Kendig
PSA: I think I’ve developed a crush on Tox. Moving alongggg.
About Crown of Souls
Six months after stopping a deadly plague, Cole “Tox” Russell and his team are enjoying a little rest. That peace is short-lived when a sniper shot hits Tox. The enemy is discovered to be one of their own, a rogue Special Forces team operator.
Alec King is perhaps the only person as skilled as Tox, and he’s out for justice. Furious with orders that got his men killed, he intends to make those responsible pay. And he insists Tox join him, believing they are the same breed of soldier.
Afraid his old friend is right, Tox battles a growing darkness within himself as he and his team engage in another deadly encounter with antiquity. It appears Alec is cheating–he’s using a mysterious artifact, a crown that history has linked to some of the worst slaughters in humanity. Racing to stop Alec before his vengeance is unleashed, Tox must fight the monster without becoming one.

Crown of Souls Struggles
Honestly, I’m drawing a blank on items that I struggled with in Crown of Souls. From the very first page, the story zoomed forward, and I never knew exactly where we were headed.
Crown of Souls LOVEs
Tox and Haven are such an interesting couple as they balance dating while in dangerous territory. And somehow, Ronie Kendig created two uniquely strong characters. Haven is not dumb in any way, and she can hold her own in most situations.
The vein of myth/history that roots the modern day story of Tox, Haven, and Alec is gripping on its own. I’m never quite happy to make a switch between stories because I just want to know what’s happening in both!
For the record, the very last page had me gasping, “No.” in great shock. Not an angry “no,” but a mind-blown type of “no.” Like, quick Ronie Kendig, I need the next book right now.
When it comes to book series, I have a short attention span. And I often become disappointed with the series as it progresses, but The Tox Files only seem to get better. I’ll be sitting over here just waiting for the next book to come out.
