About the Story:
After graduation, Jadyn Simon expected to launch her art career. Instead, this Pittsburgh native finds herself locked into a low-paying marketing position with an impossible boss.
Evicted from her apartment because of a small spending problem, she is forced to move in with her know-it-all sister. While everyone else plans a neat, buttoned-up life for her, Jadyn longs to paint professionally. Stretched like canvas between responsibility and dreams, she must choose.
Will practicality always win?
Meet Jadyn Simon:
Physical description: Jadyn has medium brown skin with tight curls that hits above her shoulders.
Age: Jadyn is 24.
Nationality: American
Job: Jadyn is a consultant at an advertising agency, where she builds marketing campaigns for businesses rather than her own art.
Strength (skill/job related): Builds relationships well with clients
Strength (life in general): Persistent
Weakness (life in general): She has trouble saying no to people, which causes her to become disorganized and overwhelmed.
Biggest struggle: Living up to other people’s expectations at the expense of her own goals
Family history: Father left the family when Jadyn was small, but she, her mom, and sister Mel are close.
Other: Jadyn loves saving the day, but each “yes” adds up until she finds herself managing more than she can handle and disappointing those she cares about most.
Other Thoughts on Jadyn:
I loved getting to know Jadyn because she reminds me of a butterfly, flitting from paintbrush to job to dating to dealing with intense clients. As I wrote her story (over about 8 years), I kept a Pinterest board of images that made me think of her. Since I’ve lived in about 10 different homes in the last 8 years, I needed a pinboard that was portable (thank you, Pinterest).
Although there are only plans to publish Teal Paisley Tights and not the two other books that follow Jadyn and her brightly colored journey, I have some pins on my Pinterest board that are about her future books.
I’d love if you’d hop over and scroll through my Pinterest board that’s devoted to Jadyn Simon.

Ohh I would’ve loved to meet Jadyn Simon in person and learn from her persistency (big weekness for me)! I’d totally encourage her to say No more often because she’s obviously not superwoman. 😉 Annd what else do I like to see in book characters? Well, I love to go deep and read about insights like dreams, fears, hopes and motivation. 🙂

Awwww, Julia! I’d LOVE to meet Jadyn in person, too…of course, I suppose I have. Haha. I think her persistence was a surprise to me, but she had to persist.
Mmmm, I like characters who go deep too, sharing the hard stuff. I’d like to work on that more for my characters. 🙂
