29 days closer to spring everyone! And we get a leap day! If those two things aren’t a cause for rejoicing, then you’d better make them so!
And while we’re talking about cool numbers, have you ever considered calculating what day is your 10,000th day on earth? You haven’t. Well, get thee to this calculator. And, if you’ve already passed that auspicious date, I think you should just round to the next thousand. I still have about a year and a half to wait for my 10,000 days!
Current Jam:
I bumped into this song during my day job and was immediately captivated. Unfortunately, I’m the type to repeat a song until it’s been rubbed shiny like a statue’s nose in a historical landmark. The original of this song is pretty grand, too. You can check it out here.
Current Food Love:
For most of January, I was traveling and I did not cook for myself at all. It was refreshing, but it’s also good to be home in my own kitchen again. I kicked off my return with this tasty and simple soup. I’m already looking forward to leftovers.
Current Read:
I’m in the last 10% of this book, and I’m loving every page. This author has blown me away with this insightful story and lyrical writing. But, mostly, I am inspired by the strength of these sisters. If you’re looking for a February inspiring read, I strongly encourage this book.
Valentine’s Day thought:
Like any born and bred American girl, I’ve felt the pressure of the commercialized love holiday of Valentine’s Day. Talk about a mix of emotions, whether I was single or dating. But a long time ago, I decided that it’s just a good day to remember to love.
Not necessarily how the commercials encourage…with boxes of chocolates, flowers, and paper hearts, but with acts of service or other actions that show love to the forgotten.
Like the old woman down the street who can’t shovel her driveway’s snow away anymore.
Like the college students who are exhausted and don’t feel loveable.
Like the friends who are just finding life harder than hard.
So maybe this Valentine’s Day, if you feel like being mopey or lonely or you just don’t want to give into the commercialization with the normal dozen of roses pressure, perhaps you might look around for a new way to show love to the world.
I could go on a suggestion the usual list of ideas for making a loving difference in this world, but honestly, I think we all know how we can help out already.
So blessings on your counter-cultural Valentine’s Day.
A Wise Truth:
Oh, man. I just can’t get over that quote. I hate the comparison game, whether I’m the one comparing myself and coming up short or someone is comparing themselves to me and coming up short (in their minds). This comparing eats away at you, causing a weird emotional anorexia.
If this is you, maybe it’s time to start figuring out baby steps to stop questioning your beauty and worth.
May all 29 days of February be full.
