Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for what we have in this present moment and maybe in the more selfish parts of our hearts, planning thankfulness for future things that we want. I like this holiday because even though it’s commercialized and lots of people are just writing out their Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping lists, there is a moment meant for being thankful between the turkey and pumpkin pie maybe.
And so, I want to pose this question to you: How do you lend a hand to your fellow humanity?
Is it in donating food to your local food bank? Is it volunteering at that food bank? Do you keep regular volunteer hours at your favorite non-profit? Or are you a financial supporter in keeping a safe house open?
But I mean, maybe you’re great at raising your voice on social media to raise awareness and spread the message. People hear you, and you’re a part of a wave of change. I take notice when everyone’s talking about a specific issue.
This is good.
But I want to challenge you to not leave it at that. Speaking up for those who can’t speak for themselves is so important! Vital truly. But so often, I see voices raised in outrage or shock or unity; and yet, it lacks actual hands-on support. Speaking up is just the start.
This is not to make you feel guilty. I want you to take a moment and think about it. What’s an organization that you’ve spoken up for on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram? Now that you’ve verbally supported them, ask yourself, “How can I help more?”
So I want to know.
How do you lend a hand?
