You know what’s embarrassing? Having your website break right when you’re going to release a new book… Yeah, that happened to me. But we’re here now. So, before November is over, let’s jump into November 2020 Inspiration!
What I’m Being Inspired By
Current Jam:
I like songs that feel a little sideways. Maybe that’s because I feel sideways in my life sometimes. Do you ever feel like you’re just walking around life, pretending? Yeah, me too.
Current Food:
Well, this November, I decided to enjoy my favorite Thanksgiving foods all month long. Each weekend, I cooked up 2-4 dishes that had some sort of cozy comfort food quality. I found so many delicious and wonderful recipes. If you want to see a few of the ones I chose, check out my Pinterest board. Pictured above: Pumpkin Spice Latte Pie and Root Vegetable Gratin (with sweet potato, parsnip, and beet).
Current Read:
I read Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi earlier in this year, and while I described it to friends as “anti-climatic,” the story still changed me in a big way. I won’t be forgetting that book any time soon. And same is clearly true with this second novel from Yaa Gyasi. Not only is the story gorgeously written, the story itself captivates. And will probably quietly haunt me for years to come in its pure humanity, marrow-revealing questions, and small joys.
Current Obsession:
Recently, I’ve come across the Selkie Collection, and while I consider them WAY out of my price range. I’m kinda obsessed with how frothy, whimsical, and exquisitely feminine these puff dresses are. They prettify my Instagram feed, and they always make me smile. Maybe someday.
Current Quote:
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how community is so important, especially with the release of Take a Right at the Mistletoe. My little novella would not be in the world today without the help of my friends, family, readers, publisher, and so many more. I recently listened to Abby Wambach’s episode with Brene Brown’s Dare to Lead podcast on Spotify, and I felt a new rush of gratitude for the people who make my writing possible.
