To me, October means autumn. Colored leaves glitter-coating the rain-wet cement on scarf-necessary days. It’s part of nature’s cycle, a soft letting go to prepare for the Sabbath and rest of winter. The earth needs this time of dying, letting go, and seeming nothingness.
We humans need it, too, despite the desire to hold on to whatever our favorite season may be.
It’s true, isn’t it? When we let go of our regrets, shames, hopes, dreams, we have the truest freedom to experience life right now in the present. Being fully alive. Fully aware. Fully thankful for what we have.
But enough heavy thought.
Current Favorite Music Jam:
I just love music. I wander through many genres sometimes thumping along with dubstep, other times rocking with strings, and sometimes wailing along with Rihanna (seriously, I’m kind of embarrassed of liking her stuff so much). But this girl…take a listen.
Let your creativity out with those wild wolves that you’re running with and collect acorns to paint! Because why not? These could make a fun autumn decoration for any space in your house, apartment, bedroom, or office.
With the oncoming cool weather, I’m nervous. I’m typing this to you now with gloves on because my hands are already cold, and it’s just barely autumn. And recently, I’m beginning to admit that I’m turning into some weird fitness junky. So I’ve been trolling the workout clothes companies in the world looking for the perfect pants. I’m head over heels for these ones!

Current Favorite Food: Grilling
Okay, I know that’s not technically a food, but I just recently replaced the grill (it died in a pile of rust, screws, and ash) with a shiny new one. It’s nothing spectacular, but it has helped me learn about charcoal grilling (my previous experience was only with a gas grill). Let’s just say I’m on a roll of putting the charcoal fire out at least once each time I grill (pst. Don’t pour more marinade on the already grilling meat and don’t put the lid over the fire if you want to keep it burning).
Anyway, I’ll grill everything…chicken, turkey, beef, pears, peaches, pineapple, avocado, bread…
All in all, I do enjoy the cooling weather, the changing leaves, and mornings snuggled in bed. But I always like to take more than a few moments to appreciate the slow and brave dying that the earth seems to go through during this time. How does the earth do this process so gracefully? When I go through hard things, I do it with both fists raised and a beet-red face.
Current Person Obsession: Ronda Rousey
Those words resonate so deeply with me. People have called me brave, and I just want to laugh. I’m so scared ALL THE TIME. Heck. I still sleep with a stuffed animal because sometimes the nights are too scary and I wonder if the sun will come up. One of my life mottos is “Walk into fear”. That’s something I have to choose almost daily. What scares me? Okay, let’s do this.
So as you face this new October with new places to be brave and new places to let go. I urge you to live openly. Arms spread. Letting go of your expectations and welcoming whatever the wind blows forth.
May you be like the trees, grace in the face of releasing their glorious summer splendor, and like the ground, soaking in the hard rains to prepare for the coming seasons. May you embrace the journey that you are on right this moment.
