There’s this theory going around that we need more than one person to satisfy our complex personalities and interests. Oh, wow. Hold up. Yes, I’m talking about community.
We’ve depleted the ology of The One for romantic relationship (once you’ve found a life partner, you still need your girls and your guys), but let’s deplete the idea of The One Best Friend for our ideas on friendship, too. There is absolutely no way that only one person could be a perfect wingwoman or wingman for you. I imagine you’ve all come upon that conclusion yourselves, but still, it’s good to repeat it out loud.
All together now. There is no such thing as one best friend or one person that will meet and excite every part of your personality. Disagree? Great! There’s a comment section below.
Here, I’ll be honest with my own life and my friendships. No names, though. Gotta keep my superhero friends safe with secret aliases.
So here it goes.
Eloise loves books and all types of creativity but she’s not so into physical activity or long drawn out deep and philosophical discussions. She’s my go-to girl for reading adventures, crafting extravaganzas, and hilarious other shenanigans. But I’d ask someone else to hike Everest with me.
Jace loves movement (whether yoga or sport), adventure, self-learning (such a wealth of knowledge), but spirituality is an annoying hindrance of the expression of freedom. This friend is my favorite for spontaneous adventures and drags me to all sorts of exercise things. But I’d seek out conversations on spirituality elsewhere.
Yara loves deep talks about all areas of life, delicious foods, and celebrating life with you, but sometimes she’s more cheerleader than one to contradict your thinking. She’s who I like to sit down with and really just churn over life topics. If I need critical feedback on a decision, I’d call someone else.
This is just a short skim of my amazing friends. They all offer such unique and vibrant perspectives on the world that my life would be terribly lacking if any one up and decided to bow out of my life. I need each and every friend for their specific loves and giftings.
But let’s just take inspiration from FRIENDS because they were a gang of awesome.
You may be catching a theme here. I think FRIENDS is awesome, and a group of friends is super awesome.
So as we explore the theme of partners in crime, I want you to consider that maybe you, in fact, have many more than one partner in crime.
